Janathon Day 31

Posted: January 31, 2011 in Janathon

Yippee! I have finished the Janathon!!! You wouldn’t believe it but I have had my best run ever tonight. I met the BRJ runners at the rec this evening and there were about 20 of us. As soon as we started the run I went straight to the front to set a good pace. It was a bit chilly to start with but once I got warmed up I felt great and I kept going and going. I looped back quite a few times to the person at the back and then once at the back I sprinted up to the front and took the lead again. For some reason I just felt really good! I think that it is because I had it in my head that this was the last day of the Janathon so I wanted to make it a good one.

I am so glad that the Janathon is over as I am in need of a rest day but as soon as I got home from the club run I felt like I wanted to run again tomorrow – this might be what they call runner’s high! I will see how my legs feel tomorrow.

Although I didn’t quite make my 100 mile target I am sure that my running has improved this month. Hope to see some of you at some races throughout the year or even at the parkrun. My next challenge is the Brighton marathon in April and this will be my first marathon. My training had better start soon. Good luck to all the other Janathoners with their running and well done to all those that managed to complete it!

Here is one of the photos  from yesterday’s parkrun. I am the 1 with the yellow top and the red face!

Tonight I had my last short run of the Janathon. I went for the easy option again and just did the run into town and back. I felt a bit cream crackered after spending the weekend with my 3 lovely children so I didn’t have much energy spare (or enthusiasm) for my run. My legs are feeling fine though and I seem to be 1 of the few runners without any aches or pains which I am very relieved about.

I will be running with the club tomorrow so I will be doing 5 or 6 miles. This means that I will be just short of a 100 miles for the Janathon. If only there were a couple more days in January!!

Janathon Day 29

Posted: January 29, 2011 in parkrun

This morning I ran the Cambridge parkrun for the 5th time this month. There were lots of runners there today and quite a few from the BRJ club. After only doing short runs this week my legs were feeling fine and I had a bit of energy in me so I was hoping to do well. I took it easy for the first lap and I felt good so I picked up the pace a bit for the second half of the run. I wasn’t too far off my pb and I was glad to have done it a bit quicker than I did last week.

Afterwards we had a coffee and had some of the cakes that people had brought to celebrate Cambridge parkrun’s birthday. There were balloons and banners around the course so everyone made a real effort today.

Tomorrow I am hoping to do a longer run to see if I can get a bit closer to that 100 mile target for the Janathon.

Janathon Day 28

It was even colder out there tonight. I had no enthusiasm whatsoever so I did my usual really short route into town and back. The pace was a bit quicker today but it was still an easy jog for me. I could have gone much further but I was finding it really boring.

I am looking forward to tomorrow’s parkrun. It is the Cambridge parkrun’s first birthday tomorrow so there should be a good turnout and hopefully quite a few from the running club. I have made some flapjack to share with the others after the run although I have already eaten quite a lot of it.

Sorry to all the other Janathoners who are putting in a lot of effort this month – I only ran 1 mile this evening in the bitter cold and the howling wind.

I have no real excuse for not going further as my legs were fine and I still had a bit of energy. I am not really enjoying the running anymore as it is getting a bit boring, but I will try and do at least a couple of miles tomorrow. I am really looking forward to February.

Day 27: 1 mile in 10:23

Janathon Day 26

I fell asleep on the sofa when I got home from work, and when I woke up I decided that I didn’t feel up to running with the club, so I texted 1 of the other runners with a really poor excuse saying why I wasn’t meeting them. I feel bad about this now as it is always a good opportunity to do a few extra miles than what I would do on my own.

I was planning on having an early night so that I had a bit of energy for work tomorrow, but 9pm came and I still hadn’t been out. I dragged myself outside at about 9:15 and went for a really short run with Sooozie. We could only manage 1 mile tonight as I really couldn’t be bothered. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Day 26: 1 slow mile in 10:54

Janathon Day 25

Posted: January 25, 2011 in Janathon

I decided to have a late run today as the Ipswich Town game was on tv and I am a tractor boy. I got into my running gear before the game started and was ready to go as soon as the whistle blew for half time. This meant that I had 15 minutes to run into town and back – the same old short route that I have done quite a lot this month. I ran with Sooozie who seemed to be struggling a bit this evening, so the pace was a bit slower than usual, even though I tried to encourage her to keep going (and get back before the second half started!). Luckily (?) I only missed a few minutes of the 2nd half so was back in time to watch the Tractors Boys get thrashed.

I will be running with the club tomorrow so I will do a few more miles at a better pace.

Janathon Day 24

Posted: January 24, 2011 in Janathon

I got home from work this evening and felt very tired and very very hungry. I heated up a bit of spaghetti bolgnese which was left over from yesterday and fried up a couple of left over jacket potatoes. I regretted this as soon as I started running this evening. Tonight I met the others at the rec for the BRJ club run. The plan was to do an effort session tonight – we do this once in a while to try and improve our running.

We jogged to Pennington Hill and split into two groups of about 12. The fast group went to the left, the slower group went to the right and then we met each other in the middle. I started off in the slow group and we did a slow jog down the hill, met the other group who went the other way, and then sprinted back up the hill. After doing this a couple of times I was told to go in the faster group – I didn’t particularly want to go any faster as I could taste my spaghetti bolognese. We did this another couple of times, caught our breath and then jogged back to the rec doing the single file Indian run. This is where the last man sprints to the front and then shouts for the next last person to sprint to the front. We repeated this all the way to the rec which meant that we each got about 5 or 6 sprints. The whole run including a few stops took just under 1 hour. I didn’t enjoy it as I was shattered and it felt a bit of a struggle. It was nice to run with the club though and meet up with the others.

Day 24: 5.2 miles in 57:26

Janathon Day 23

Posted: January 23, 2011 in Janathon

I got up early today after a good night’s sleep, had 6 slices of toast for breakfast and a big mug of tea. I was thinking about doing some cycling today down the guided busway which starts in town, but my mind and body had different ideas. I sat on my fat arse instead and watched a bit of Hollyoaks and considered going back to bed.

Instead I walked into town to get some fresh air and was planning on buying some healthy food for a bit of energy. Most shops in town were closed but I managed to do a little bit of food shopping and bought lots of fruit and vegetables for next week so that I can start eating a bit more healthily.

I then walked back home and sat on the sofa to watch a little bit more telly before making myself go out for a short run. This was the usual 1 miler into town and back. It was really boring and very windy. This has been my worst day of the Janathon so far because of my lack of enthusiasm and lack of energy. I will be very happy when the end of the month comes.

Janathon Day 22

Posted: January 22, 2011 in Janathon, parkrun

Today I ran in the Cambridge parkrun for the 19th time. I got up a little bit earlier this morning after a good nights sleep and had 4 bits of toast for breakfast and a large mug of tea hoping that it would give me a little bit of energy. We got to the parkrun about 5 minutes before it started so I didn’t really have time to warm up, but there were a few minutes spare to take a couple of photos. I am the one right looking a little bit tired!

I started in the middle of the pack and again I think that I went out a little bit too fast. By the second lap I was running at a good pace and keeping up with a group of other runners for the rest of the race. I had a good sprint up to the finish line and gave it everything I had. As we cross the finish line we are given a tag which shows our final position. I thought that it said 63 so I was really pleased with myself. It was only when I had recovered a bit and caught my breath that I looked at it again and realised that it said 83. I felt a little bit gutted! I am also a little bit disappointed as I was aiming for 24:30, but I wasn’t too far off this. (Perhaps I should stop chatting the ladies up as I run round!)
